20th Century Studios indulged the audience this morning, releasing the first and highly anticipated teaser trailer of Alien: Romulusthe new installment of the saga Aliendirected by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead).

The minute-long trailer hints at an exciting return for the franchise, starting with a parade of spaceships reminiscent of Nostromo, plus glimpses at the new cast, including its leads. Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, The Craft: Legacy, Mare of Easttown, Devs) e Isabela Merced (Instant Family, Dora and the Lost City of Goldl). The team aboard the ship navigates dimly lit hexagonal hallways, where they are seen fleeing Facehuggers, creatures that manage to reach some of the crew. At the end of the teaser, in an image that reminds us of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in the sequel Aliens by James Cameron, we see Spaeny carrying a gun and encountering the Xenomorph.

The rest of the cast is made up David Johnson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Upgraded, The Other Zoey), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), y Aileen Wu.

Alien: Romulus It is the seventh installment of the franchise Alienand the ninth if we take into account the Aliens vs Predator crossovers.

The project is described as “an original independent feature film.” The film will be a reboot of the science fiction and horror franchise.

The plot It takes place between the timeline of the first film and the second..

The original classic Alien by Ridley Scott from 1979, ended with a shot in which the protagonist, Sigourney Weaver, expelled a Xenomorph from her escape capsule, before falling into cryogenic sleep that would take her back to human civilization. The sequel, Aliens by Cameron, released in 1986, picked up the plot years later, while Ripley accompanied a military mission investigating a possible Xenomorph attack on a remote space colony.

Álvarez co-wrote the script with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (remake Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, Don’t Breathe 2remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and produced the feature film in the company of Ridley Scottdirector of the original classic and the prequels Prometheus y Alien: Covenant.

Alien: Romulus will be released in theaters on August 16, 2024 via 20th Century Studios. It will be the first installment of the saga Alien to be distributed by Disney.
