Ingredients

  • 2 cups of wheat flour

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2 cup cold butter cut into cubes

  • 4 to 6 tablespoons of ice water

  • 2 cans of sardines in oil, drained and shredded

  • 1 medium chopped onion

  • 2 minced garlic cloves

  • 1 chopped tomato (optional)

  • 1/2 bell pepper chopped (optional)

  • Chopped olives to taste

  • Chopped parsley and chives to taste

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup of milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • For the dough, in a bowl, mix the flour and salt.
Add the chilled butter and mix with your fingertips until you get a crumbly texture.
Add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until dough begins to form.
Form a ball with the dough, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  • While the dough rests in the fridge, prepare the filling.
In a skillet, heat the oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden.
Add the tomato and bell pepper, if using, and sauté for a few more minutes.
Add the shredded sardines, olives, parsley, chives, salt and pepper.
Cook for a few more minutes, stirring well.
    Reserve.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and line the bottom and sides of a pie pan.
  • Spread the sardine filling over the dough.
  • In a bowl, beat the eggs, milk, salt and pepper.
Pour this mixture over the filling in the form.
  • Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the pie is golden and firm.
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
