The actress, in addition to revealing that she is returning as the Scream Queen, announced that Kevin Williamsonscreenwriter of the original 1996 installment, He will be the director! Williamson wrote the original installment, as well as the sequels, Scream 2 y Scream 4. He has been the executive producer of the two most recent films, Scream 5 y Scream VI.
The news was published by Campbell on Instagram, with the following message:
“Hello everyone. I am very excited to announce this news!!! Sydney Prescott returns!!!! It has always been a wonder and an honor to be able to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and what they have meant to me has never waned. ¡I am very happy and proud to say that I was asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn't be more excited! Well, actually it could.
“While I have been incredibly fortunate to make these films with both horror master Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented team of Matt and Tyler, I've dreamed for many years about how wonderful it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it's happening: Kevin Williamson will direct Scream 7! This was her baby and it is her brilliant mind that dreamed up this world. Kevin is not only an inspiration as an artist but he has been a dear friend for many years. “To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am.”
The sequel currently has no official title. It is referred to as Untitled Scream 7 o Scream VII.
The script was written by Guy Busickfrom a story of James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. They both wrote the script for Scream 5 y Scream 6.
Campbell's original post, which is accompanied by the cover of the script, can be found at the end of this note.
The return of the actress takes place after she was not part of the previous installment, Scream 6this due to a much-discussed salary dispute with Spyglass Media Group. The production company refused to pay the salary Campbell requested to make Scream 6, which is why he did not resume his role as Sidney Prescott for the first time in the history of the popular franchise. Apparently, Spyglass has now approached the actress with a better and suitable offer.
In recent months, the franchise has been mired in controversy. First, due to the unjust dismissal of Melissa Barrera for comments about the Israel-Hamas war, and the departures of both Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon. This generated a lot of controversy among the fandom.
Will the return of Campbell and the announcement of Williamson as director be enough reasons to attract fans of Scream? The audience will have the last word.
