Marvel Studios is in early talks with Shawn Levy to direct the next installment of Avengers. The studio has given him the script for Michael Waldron, and wait for the filmmaker's response. In the meantime, he will meet with other candidates. According to reports from Deadline, Levy is the studio's number one option.
The director is planning to launch in theaters Deadpool & Wolverine on July 26. Likewise, he will be involved in the final season of Stranger Things as director and executive producer with his company 21 Laps, in addition to having signed a while ago for a universe film Star Wars.
Some of the projects in his filmography include the saga Night at the Museum, Date Night, Real Steel, Free Guy, The Adam Projectamong others.
The next Avengers I would be Avengers 5 –with a new official title to be known later– following in the footsteps of Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) –both directed by Joss Whedon– Avengers: Infinity War (2018) y Avengers: Endgame (2019) –both by Joe and Anthony Russo–.
The media reveals that Marvel's intention is to start filming the fifth film next year which, according to the report, could feature the return of more than 60 MCU characters, including everyone from Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Benedict Cumberbatch, to Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu y Karen Gillian.
Deadline shares other details about Avengers 5:
“Unlike the first four films in which there was a core group of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Hemsworth and Ruffalo, many of the characters in this film would be on equal terms, making it more of a in an ensemble film, rather than a handful of characters leading the team.”
“Plot details are unknown, and following Jonathan Majors' departure from the MCU as Kang following his conviction for reckless assault in December, it is unknown who would be the central villain or if the film could potentially include multiple antagonists.”
