With filming scheduled to start on August 30, 2022, the hit series of Showtime, Yellowjacketscontinues to add talent to the cast of the second season of the survival drama.
According to Deadline reports, Elijah Wood (trilogy The Lord of the Rings) is the latest casting from the critically acclaimed Emmy-nominated original series. The actor will play Walter, “a dedicated citizen detective who will challenge Misty (Christina Ricci) in ways she won’t see coming. That’s all she says [Showtime] about his role for now.”
The role is said to be a “one season guest arc”.
Wood is world-renowned for starring in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as Frodo Baggins. Other of his credits include Sin City, The Faculty, Green Street Hooligans, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Maniac y Come to Daddy. His television credits include Wilfred, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. His next roles will be in movies The Toxic Avengery L.A. Rush.
Wood joins the newly confirmed signings of Lauren Ambrose as the adult version of Van (played as a young version by Liv Hewson), and that of Simone Kessell as the adult version of Lottie Matthews (played by Courtney Eaton in his teenage version) in the present day timeline of season 2.
Original cast members in adult versions include Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, y Christina Ricci. Some of the teen versions are performed by Jasmine Savoy Brown, Hewson, Eaton, Sophie Nélisse, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, y Ella Purnell.
The story of the series co-created by Ashley Lyle y Bart Nickerson, is both a survival epic, a psychological horror story, and a coming-of-age drama, portraying the aftermath a group of former female soccer players deal with, 25 years after surviving a chilling incident in his adolescence: a plane crash that falls deep into the remote wilderness of the northern United States.
The first season transports us between the past and the present, and goes episode by episode delving into the history and consequences of the harsh winter lived by the teenagers, in which they had to resort to cannibal horrors to survive, as well as the havoc it causes in the adult life of the small group of survivors.
The season one finale, aired last January, opened the doors for more surviving members of the team Yellowjackets in the current history of the show.
The second season was made official by Showtime before airing the season finale in January of the current year. No final release date has been specified, however, it is believed that it could debut on screen before the end of the year. In Mexico and the rest of the Latin American market, it is available through Paramount Plus.
