Perseids are meteor showers that occur annually during the second half of August, named because they appear to come from the constellation Perseus. Visible mainly in the northern hemisphere and observed for more than 2,000 years, they are a cathartic and hypnotic spectacle.
That said, when I first heard Perseidssomesurprises' new album, I clearly understood why it was named that way.
The Seattle band was born as a project by Natasha El-Sergany, of Egyptian descent, born in Ireland, raised in England and an American citizen since her adolescence. From 2017 onwards he started working with guitarist Josh Medina and last April they released their 5th album as a quartet, the aforementioned Fall of Shooting Stars.
To hear Perseids is to dive slowly and deeply into a sea of layers created by guitars and synthesizers that burst and return under Natasha's heavenly voice. At the end of this dive, already completely numb, the impression remains that we have left a long psychedelic dream to which we soon want to return.
An album of sensations, to be absorbed without rushing. Let yourself go and have a good trip!
