Movie buffs who are fans of the Dark Knight will have to wait a little longer than expected to return to Gotham City and see the return of Robert Pattinson like Batman on the big screen.
The study Warner Bros. announced modifications to its release schedule for its upcoming high-profile projects. Among those affected is The Batman Part II from the co-writer and director Matt Reeves.
The sequel to The Batman has been delayed to 2027. It was originally going to be released on October 2, 2026, but now It is delayed a year and will premiere on October 1, 2027 in IMAXaccording to WB reports.
The script will be co-written by Reeves y Mattson Tomlin. They both co-wrote the script for The Batman.
Confirmed cast members are Pattinson returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis like Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright Like James Gordon. And apparently, we will see more of Barry Keoghan like the Joker. There has also been talk of the possible return of Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, who stole scenes as the main villain of the first installment, balancing the horrors of real life with the theatricality of Batman, portraying on screen a murderer who, to much of the audience, reminded him of to the murderer of Zodiac by David Fincher.
The sequel was officially launched in April 2022.
The Batman became a box office success, accumulate more than $700 million in the global box officeand earn the title as the third highest-grossing film in times of pandemic.
The argument of The Batman focused on the Dark Knight's beginnings as he evolves into an experienced vigilante, uncovering corruption in Gotham City and learning more about his billionaire family's past.
The film led to the spinoff series The Penguinreleased on HBO and Max in September, being received extremely positively by critics and audiences.
Little is known about the plot of the sequel beyond knowing that “will take audiences back to Gotham.”
In a recent interview with Variety, Reeves said that He was finishing the script for The Batman Part II and had planned to film it in 2025.. Production is expected to start during the third quarter of 2025.
