He Saturday May 20, 2023the Cannes Film Festival will celebrate the world premiere of the historic mystery thriller Killers of the Flower Moon of Martin Scorsese at the Grand Théâtre Lumière, as part of the Official Selection of the festival, although it has not been clarified if it will be in competition or out of it.
- This marks Scorsese’s return to the Croisette since his best director win for After Hours in 1986.
- In 1976, Scorsese won the Palme d’Or for Taxi Driver, which was presented in competition in the Official Selection.
- In 1998, Scorsese chaired the Cannes jury.
A recent report by Variety reveals that the feature film will last almost 4 hours. The longest-running films in Scorsese’s filmography are: The Irishman (209 minutes), The Wolf of Wall Street (180 minutes), and Casino (178 minutes).
Killers of the Flower Moon marks the latest collaboration between Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio y Robert De Niro. The three will be present on the red carpet at Cannes 2023, along with the rest of the cast members such as Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, Tantoo Cardinalamong others.
The Apple Original film is based on the bestselling novel of the same name written by David Grann, whose plot –based on true facts– is set in the 1920s, and tells how a series of murders of Native American tribesmen of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma, over oil, emerged as one of the first major homicide investigations of the newly created FBI.
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“In the 1920s in Oklahoma, the Osage Nation were the richest people per capita in the world, after oil was discovered under their land. And then they were killed, one by one. As the body count mounted, the newly formed FBI took up the case, unraveling a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.
The script was written by the Oscar winner, Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, A Star is Born, Dune).
Theatrical distribution will be handled by Paramount Pictureswhich has already set its limited release for October 6, 2023, and wide release for October 20. Being an Apple Original production, will also be launched on the global market in Apple TV+ after her big screen debut.
Scorsese and DiCaprio are producing the feature, along with Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas of Imperative Entertainment, Emma Tillinger Koskoff of Sikelia Productions, and Appian Way Productions.
