With a mix of returning familiar faces and newcomers to the franchise, Warner Bros. confirmed to the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollumon stage at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas.

Con Release date planned for December 17, 2027the film promises a return to familiar shadows and whispers, with a story that slips between the cracks of the original trilogy.

The fantasy epic will see the return of several well-known faces to JRR Tolkien's fantasy world, such as Andy Serkis back as Gollum/Sméagol, Ian McKellen like Gandalf, Elijah Wood like Frodo Baggins and Lee Pace like Thranduil.

Serkis is not only back as Gollum, but he also takes the reins as director of this new chapter in the iconic saga.

New names join the franchise ready to forge their own legends in the mythology of Middle Earth: Kate Winslet like Marigol, Leo Woodall (The White Lotus) like Halvard and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) as Strider, the man who will become Aragorn.

The Hunt for Gollum chronicles Aragorn's dangerous quest to capture Gollum before the creature can reveal the location of the Ring to Sauron. The story, developed largely from JRR Tolkien's footnotes, is set between The Hobbit y The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Serkis directs the script written by the co-writers of the original trilogy, Fran Walsh y Philippa Boyensy Phoebe Gittins (The Sorrows) y Arty Papageorgiou (The Sorrows).

Peter Jacksondirector of the epic saga the lord of the ringsis involved as director, alongside Walsh, Boyens, and Zane Weiner, with Ken Kamins, Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish serving as executive producers.

Serkis is in pre-production in Los Angeles, with production scheduled to begin in May in New Zealand.
