'The Office' – The new series casts Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young

Last May, the development of a new series set in the same universe was made official. The Officecon Greg Daniels –co-creator of the popular sitcom– and Michael Koman in charge of the same.

The latest news reveals three new signings for the mockumentary series: Melvin Gregg (American Vandal), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), y Ramona Young (Santa Clarita Diet), according to reports from Deadline.

The outlet also reports that Gregg, Frei and Young “shadowed” staff members of a local Los Angeles-area newspaper with 96 years of experience in the field.

The series does not have an official title at the moment.

These three join those previously announced, Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient, About Time) y Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus). There are no details about their roles at this time.

The new series is not a reboot, but a series within the same universe as The Office. We repeat, It's not a reboot, it will take place in a new office with new characters, but it will live in the same world as the mockumentary series starring Steve Carell.

This is the premise of the show:

“In the new series, the documentary crew that immortalized the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin is looking for a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the editor attempts to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

The sitcom is executive produced by Daniels and Koman, along with Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas. Universal Television is the production company.

Lisa Katz, president of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a press release in May (via Deadline):

“It's been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and generate new generations of fans on Peacock. In association with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, This new series set in the Dunder Mifflin universe features a new cast of characters in a fresh setting conducive to comedic storytelling: a newspaper.”

The Officeadapted for American audiences by Daniels based on its British namesake by Gervais and Merchant, revolves around the daily lives of employees of the fictional Scranton-based paper company Dunder Mifflin. The series is a scripted drama, however, it is considered a mockumentary or mockumentary, since the actors are aware of the presence of the cameras. It aired on NBC for nine seasons from 2005, concluding in 2013.
