The sequel to Alexandre Aja's 'Crawl' sets a theatrical release for July 2027

Paramount Pictures announced the theatrical release date for the horror sequel Crawl 2 –without an official title at the moment– that will feature the return of Alexandre Aja as director.

The new installment is scheduled to premiere July 16, 2027. The project will be starred by Mason Gooding (Scream 7, Heart Eyes) y Emily Rudd (One Piece, Fear Street), Variety reported.

Aja, who directed the 2019 horror thriller — which became a smash hit at the box office — returns as director of the sequel.

The filmmaker also produces the film alongside Craig Flores y Sam Raimiwith Gregory Levasseur, Kevan Van Thompson and Zainab Azizi serving as executive producers.

The script for the sequel is written by Aja, Jason Pagan, Andrew Deutschman y Grégory Levasseur.

The 2019 horror thriller, known as Hell in the storm in our region, focuses its plot on the arrival of a disastrous Category 5 hurricane, and the effort of a young woman (played by Kaya Scodelario) to rescue her father (played by Barry Pepper) from a house flooded by the force of the hurricane in Florida, while a group of crocodiles stalk them.

The Paramount Pictures production became a successful hit upon its arrival in theaters in July of that year, collecting $91.5 million dollars ($39 million domestic box office, $52.2 million international box office), against a budget of $13 million dollars.

With Gooding and Rudd as the new protagonists, it is almost safe to assume that the sequel will follow a new story with other characters different from the first installment.

In May 2021, Aja hinted that the sequel to Crawl would take another tack, saying: “We've been talking about a sequel non-stop, and we've put together a very, very fun approach to the story. I think Haley's story is very strong, but I think Crawl is about nature taking back its due, and kind of… driven more hurricanes, man against animal man. So, maybe it's a completely different story. We're looking for that human story right now, which will be just as strong as the first one.”
