The Friday, October 21, 2022, Universal Pictures will release in American theaters the rom-com Ticket to Paradisethe great and long-awaited return of the Oscar winner, Julia Roberts to the genre, after an absence of more than 20 years, and that of the co-star, George Clooney to the genre in which he last ventured with One Fine Day (1996).

  • It will be released in theaters in Mexico this Thursday, October 6.

The latest in the studio’s marketing campaign are two behind-the-scenes glimpses. The first of them focused on Roberts and Clooney, and their experience collaborating again in front of the screen; the second one shows Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Dopesick), y Billie Heavy (Booksmart, American Horror Story).

The film, titled in our market as passage to paradise focuses on the characters of Roberts and Clooney, who play an ex-married couple who must put their feelings for the other first, with a common goal. Will they make it?

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

“Academy Award® winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite on the big screen as ex-husbands on a mission to stop their lovesick daughter from making the same mistake they once did.”

Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Now Is Good, Imagine Me & You) directs the feature film, with a screenplay co-written with Daniel Pipski.

On his absence from rom-coms, Roberts, who rose to fame for roles in movies like Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride, America’s Sweetheartexplained to the New York Times earlier:

“People sometimes misunderstand the amount of time it’s been since they’ve made a romantic comedy as if they didn’t want to make one. If I had read something that I thought was on the level of writing of Notting Hill or the level of crazy fun of My Best Friend’s Wedding, I would. They didn’t exist until this movie I just made [Ticket to Paradise]which Ol Parker wrote and directed.”

[Ticket to Paradise] “it only works if it’s [con] George Clooney. George felt that he only worked with me. Somehow we are both able to do it, and [nos atrevimos a hacerlo].”

Roberts and Clooney have collaborated on films such as Ocean’s Eleven (2001), Ocean’s Twelve (2004), y Money Monster (2016). Additionally, Roberts protagonizó Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), Clooney’s directorial debut.

Working Title, Smokehouse Pictures and Red Om Films are producing the film, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Working Title), Sarah Harvey and Deborah Balderstone, Clooney and Grant Heslov (Smokehouse Pictures), Roberts, Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill (Red Om Films), are producing.

Filming took place in Queensland, Australia in late 2021-early 2022.
