News continues to arrive around the announced sequel Beetlejuice 2 of Tim Burton and the study Warner Bros.

The most recent is a new signing. No signing. Another signing. We talk about Willem Dafoewho joins the cast playing a law enforcement officer in the afterlife (via THR).

The actor joins the comebacks of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder y Catherine O’Hara, reprising their roles from the 1988 cult classic, and new additions Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) playing Ryder’s daughter, Justin Theroux (The Leftovers, The Mosquito Coast) in a role that has not been detailed, and Monica Bellucci (Malena, The Passion of the Christ, Maffia Mamma), giving life to Beetlejuice’s wife.

Dafoe’s most recent films include The Northman y Spider-Man: No Way Home. Soon we will see Asteroid City by Wes Anderson, and Poor Things by Georges Lanthimos. He is also booked for Nosferatu the Robert Eggers.

Filming for the sequel kicked off this week in London. WB set the film to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.

Burton to direct from Mike Vukadinovich’s script, with drafts by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. Burton, Katzenberg, and Grahame-Smith produce the feature.

Not much is known about the plot at the moment, except that Beetlejuice will return to cause more fun trouble.

The original film followed the spirits of a deceased couple who are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their house. The pair hire a malicious spirit in Beetlejuice to drive them out. Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara starred in the film, which grossed more than $75 million at the global box office.

Other producers include Tommy Harper, Plan B, Marc Toberoff, and David Geffen.
