The slasher universe of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey from the screenwriter and director Rhys Frake-Waterfieldhad given green light for a new installment, the third in the saga, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3.
The news was confirmed by Frake-Waterfield, and the producer Scott Chambers from horror film production company Jagged Edge Productions.
Variety collects the producers' statements:
“'Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3' will have a larger budget than the previous films and will introduce new characters from the original Winnie-the-Pooh stories, including Rabbit, the heffalumps and the woozles. Without a doubt, they will all be given sadistic and murderous turns.”
The news becomes official a few days after the premiere in US theaters of the sequel Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, which was shown for three days in theaters in that nation, and a year later at the release of the original film. In Mexico, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 It will be released in theaters this Thursday, April 18, 2024.
The original installment became an unexpected box office hit, and became the favorite of genre film fans in 2023.
The audience was hooked on a premise with a sinister twist on one of the most beloved fictional characters: Winnie the Pooh. In the first installment, Pooh and Piglet go out for blood after Christopher Robin (Nikolia Leon in the original, Scott Chambers in the sequel) abandons them. In the sequel, other friends join in to continue the revenge.
The budget of the first installment was less than $50,000 USD, making a box office of $5.2 million dollars worldwide, so launching more installments did not take the producers much time. There are still no figures on the accumulated Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.
Jagged Edge Productions, together with ITN Studios, also announced in recent weeks that they have launched the development of their own horror cinematic universe, the Poohniverseand “twisted children's universe which is being built to launch a movie in the style of the Avengers o Justice League.
The Twisted Childhood Universe will be made up of individual installments Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, Bambi: The Reckoning, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare y Pinocchio Unstrungwill additionally present characters like Sleeping Beauty, The Mad Hattery Rabbitthe latter of Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey: “All these characters will come together in Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble in 2025, when the monsters join forces to conquer the world,” the producers announced.
The first look at the Poohniverse is found in a post-credits scene from Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.
At the moment it is unknown if Blood and Honey 3 will be part of the Poohniverse in 2025.
