Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role as Blue Beetle in 'Man of Tomorrow'

The cast of Man of Tomorrowis adding a familiar face.

Xolo Maridueña will resume his role as Blue Beetle in the sequel to Superman (2025), according to reports from Variety.

Maridueña played the role for the first time in the film Blue Beetle (2023), directed by Ángel Manuel Soto. The actor played Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate who gains superpowers when an alien beetle attaches itself to him.

Man of Tomorrow is currently in production, with James Gunn as director.

The medium reminds us of Gunn's statements, where he officially confirmed that Jaime Reyes de Maridueña is the first character in the renewed DC Universe (DCU), “The first character of the DC Universe, without a doubt, is Blue Beetle, and the first complete film of the DC Universe is 'Superman'.”

Blue Beetle became the first Latin superhero to star in a solo film in the DC universe.

Gunn is the writer, director, and producer of the sequel, in addition to being the co-president of DC Studios.

In Man of Tomorrow, The Man of Steel will team up with his adversary, Luthor, to face a much greater threat: the highly intelligent cosmic menace known as Brainiac. (Lars Eidinger).

Maridueña joins a cast that includes the returns of David Corenswet like the Man of Steel, Nicholas Hoult like Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan like Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo like Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio like Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced like Hawkgirl, Nathan Million como Guy Gardner, Lars Eidinger like Brainiac, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, a character he has played in Peacemaker, Creature Commandos y Superman.

Among the new additions we find Matthew Lillard (Scream, Five Nights at Freddy’s) in a role without details, Aaron Pierre playing John Stewart/Green Lantern, a character who will debut in the upcoming HBO Max series, Lanternsy Adria Arjona (Blink Twice y Andor) playing warrior queen Máxima, in the character's debut in a DC live-action.

Warner Bros. is planning the release of Man of Tomorrow to July 9, 2027 in cinemas around the world.
