'Zootopia 2' Has $556 Million Global Opening; best animated premiere of all time

Zootopia 2 is conquering number one in theaters around the world.

The sequel already announced this from its opening day last Wednesday, November 26, and the dominance continued throughout the long weekend due to the Thanksgiving celebration in the United States, and throughout the international market.

The family-friendly project had an opening box office of $156 million at the domestic box office over the five-day long weekend (Wednesday-Sunday) and another $400.4 million at the international box office for a global start of $556.4 million dollars.

As Disney noted in a press release, Zootopia 2 es:

• The highest grossing world premiere of one animated movie of all time.
• He best opening weekend for any movie worldwide so far in 2025.
• El fourth highest-grossing world premiere of all time.
• At the US box office, it is the second highest-grossing Thanksgiving Wednesday opening of all time, behind the $57.9 million of Moana 2 (2024).
• Among other notable records.

Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, stated:

Furthermore, in its opening week, Zootopia 2 broke the record as the American animated film with the best opening day in China, with $34 million. It marked the best opening day for a Hollywood studio film since May 2021, and the 10th best opening day for a Hollywood production in all of history.

Disney repeats in 2025 the billboard dominance it has long had during the Christmas season.

In Zootopia 2Detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde investigate a mysterious reptile, Gary De'Snake, who comes to town and causes chaos. To solve the case, they must go undercover to new parts of the city and their growing collaboration will be tested like never before. The plot takes place in Zootopia, a city where reptiles have been banned for decades, creating tensions and mistrust.

Ginnifer Goodwin y Jason Bateman lend their voices to Judy and Nick, respectively, with Oscar winner, Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) lending his voice to the reptile Gary De'Snake, and the superstar Shakira joining as Gazelle.

Other members of the voice cast include Idris Elba, Andy Samberg, Quinta Brunson, David Strathairn, Bonnie Hunty Danny Trejo.

Jared Bush y Byron Howardreturn as scriptwriters and directors of the new installment.

In addition to writing and directing the first 2016 film, Bush and Howard co-directed another Disney animated hit, Charm. Both won the Oscar for best animated film. Bush and Howard received the award for being the producers of Charm, while Howard also received it for being a producer of Zootopia.
