Stephen King praises Jeremy Renner for returning to the ring after his accident

Stephen King is taking advantage of the July 4th celebration to catch up on TV series.

One of the series King is watching is Mayor of Kingstownthe Paramount+ original crime thriller created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dilon, which features Jeremy Renner in a leading role.

King praised the series and its star, who reprised his starring role in season 3 after a serious accident in January 2023 when he was hit by a snowplow. Renner stepped into the path of the vehicle he was operating and lost control of, to save his nephew from being crushed. The actor broke 38 bones and had a long recovery.

This is what King posted on X/Twitter:

“I have no idea what's going on in THE MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN, but I love this show. It reminds me of THE SHIELD and SONS OF ANARCHY. I had no fucking idea what was going on in those either.”

In Mayor of KingstownRenner plays Mike McLusky, the mayor of the Michigan town where the McLusky family acts as a mediator between gangs, prisoners and police.

While King said he wasn't entirely clear on what was happening in the series, he was sure of one thing, sharing on the same social network:

“What I know is that Mike McLusky drives a badass Lincoln Connie. That’s all I need to know. Plus, that Bunny guy [Tobi Bamtefa] “He’s a tough guy.”

“Also, Jeremy Renner is a badass who got hit by a snowplow and came back for the freaking third season!”

During an appearance on the Smartless podcast hosted by Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman, Renner spoke about his current situation after the accident:

“I just don't have the energy for it.” [papeles demandantes]“I don’t have any fuel. I have so much fuel to put into this reality, this body, all of this stuff. I can’t just play fantasy right now. Because it takes a long time to get here every day to be able to have a positive thought, to be able to progress, to be able to always keep growing.”

On returning for Mayor of Kingstown Season 3:

“If it was a very challenging role, I couldn’t have taken it. It’s not a challenge in the sense that, because the series is a challenge, but if I had to play Dahmer or something like that, something so far away from me.”
