Upiko «Crow» – now that autumn is here, I think you can listen to sad and melancholic music again. First up is the 20-year-old Japanese singer Upiko – she is a nurse and street musician, but also has a YouTube channel on which she publishes cover versions, her own songs and even some properly produced singles. She now has almost 170,000 subscribers, including many outside of Japan, which is certainly due to her great, very deep voice and her music, which has something of a French chanson quality to it. I recommend turning on the subtitles to understand the tragic stories she tells.
Attic Ocean «Lillies and Sea» – let’s stay in Japan, at least visually. The Düsseldorf shoegaze band Attic Ocean shot their new clip in Tokyo and delivered very chic images that match the dreaminess of the music.
