Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
Salt and black pepper (to taste)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (optional, for a light coating)
2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
Directions
- Season the chicken with salt and pepper. For a slightly crispy exterior, lightly dust the chicken with flour.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in honey, soy sauce, and vinegar. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, add the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) to the pan. Stir well and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and spoon the honey garlic sauce over it. Let the chicken simmer in the sauce for 2 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Transfer the chicken to a serving plate. Drizzle with extra sauce and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
