The film adaptation of The Housemaidbased on the bestseller of the same name by Freida McFadden, was announced by Lionsgate in October.

The project closed an agreement with the Italian actor Michele Morrone (365 Days) to join the previously announced protagonists, Sydney Sweeney (Immaculate, Anyone But You) y Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!, The Dropout). Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us, 1923) is another cast member (via Deadline).

The thriller will be directed by Paul Feig (A Simple Favor) with a hyphen Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys).

The Housemaid will mark a new collaboration between Morrone and Feig, as he is part of the cast of A Simple Favor 2 de Feig.

“In the film, Sweeney will play Millie, a struggling woman who is relieved to have a fresh start as a domestic servant to Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Sklenar), a wealthy, upper-class couple. He soon discovers that the family's secrets are much more dangerous than his own.

Morrone is best known for starring in the saga of 365 Days. Right now we can see it in the thriller Subservience from Netflix. Coming soon in Bunny-Man alongside James Franco and Bella Thorne, and Maserati: The Brothers, alongside Anthony Hopkins, Andy García and Jessica Alba.

McFadden's novel has been on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year (75 weeks), and on Amazon's best sellers for over 98 weeks. It also broke the record of 500 million pages read on Kindle and is the second most read title on Kindle's 10th anniversary, only behind the series Harry Potter. It has sold more than 3.6 million copies in English and has been translated into 40 languages.

Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures will produce, along with Feig and Laura Fischer of Feigco. Sweeney and Seyfried will executive produce with Alex Young and McFadden.
