Christopher Nolan's next film will adapt Homer's 'The Odyssey'

It has been revealed what the mysterious next film project will be Christopher Nolan con Universal Pictures.

According to information from the study sent to the media, Nolan's film will adapt the epic poem The Odyssey from Homercomposed around the 13th century BC

“Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey is a mythical action epic filmed around the world using new IMAX film technology. “The film brings Homer’s founding saga to IMAX cinema screens for the first time and opens in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.”

The luxury cast has confirmed Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson y Charlize Theron.

Damon, Holland, Hathaway and Pattinson are said to play the lead roles, with Nyong'o and Zendaya playing supporting roles.

Homer's ancient Greek poem tells the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, exploring themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning, and the fight against divine will. The story includes iconic episodes such as his encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the mermaids and the witch goddess Circe, which culminate with his reunion with his wife, Penelope.

The Oddisey It was previously adapted into the Italian film Ulysses by director Mario Camerini and star Kirk Douglas. In 1997, Andrei Konchalovsky adapted it into a miniseries with Armand Assante in the lead role. The most recent adaptation is the film just released in theaters The Return by Uberto Pasolini, with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche in leading roles.

The film is expected to begin filming in early 2025.

Nolan wrote the script and will direct the feature film that will be distributed by Universal Pictures, as happened with the acclaimed Oppenheimer. The studio set its premiere in theaters for July 17, 2026.

The film's release will include IMAX format. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond told Variety that the filmmaker will experiment with “new IMAX technology,” and “equipment never used before.”

Nolan will produce alongside his associate and wife, Emma Thomasfor their production company, Syncopy.
