2024 was a year of great releases, both in the pop universe and in the music underworld, and I can also say that it was the year in which I listened to the most new albums since the pandemic period.

I recently wrote for UOL about albums by long-lived and renowned artists who 'invaded' foreign lists of the best of the yearso today the space will be dedicated to young underground names that made (and continue to make) my head.

Cindy Lee – Diamond Jubilee

“…it sounds as if some of the music from decades ago – from psychedelia to the sound of girl groups to the innocence of newborn rock from the 1950s – passed through a noisy low-fidelity filter, generating a sound that has no equal in rock music today, equally emotional and stoned, turbulent and dreamy.” (Read more here)

Vessel – Wrapped In Cellophane

“If someone asked me what my favorite album of 2024 was, my brain would probably go wrong, because it doesn't work in a ranking scheme and consequently neither do I. Dummy – Free Energy

“Kraut trance, distorted guitars and 'those' vocal harmonies now mix with electronic ambiences and beats inherited from both the Madchester era and big beat/trip hop. Neutrals – New Town Dream

“When I first heard the Californian Neutrals a few months ago, I thought, 'Why on earth does this Scottish band who obviously spend their days listening to Television Personalities, Pastels, Raincoats, Wedding Present and the like say they live in California?'.” (Read more here)

Omni – Souvenir

“…in Souvenir, Omni follows the path it never left, searching in new wave and post-punk – Television (yes, damn! hahaha), Blondie, Devo, etc – the right influences to make a sound that harks back to the past but It doesn’t smell musty, energetic and angular, tailored to shake up the body and ideas.” (Read more here)
