Prime Video debuted the first look at Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) in full characterization as the iconic character Lara Croftin the live-action series of Tomb Raider.
The glimpse is revealed as the series kicks off and begins filming.
Turner is the latest actress to play Lara Croft on screen, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie who gave her life in two films, and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot.
In addition to Turner, the cast includes Martin Bobb-Semple (All American: Homecoming), Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar), Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imriey August Wittgenstein.
The series of Amazon MGM Studios is developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), and has credit as creator, screenwriter, and executive producer of the series, and coshowrunner alongside Chad Hodgewho is also executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun) is the director and executive producer.
Other executive producers include Jenny Robins, Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Michael Scheel. Legendary Television, Story Kitchem Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios produce.
In January 2023, it was announced that Amazon MGM Studios was building an entire universe of Tomb Raidergiving in the first instance the green light to this live-action series, in addition to a video game, and a new movie, this after acquiring the property rights.
It remains to be seen where Turner's Croft will be presented. Vikander's version was heavily inspired by the 2013 reboot of the game, with a stylistic twist from Jolie's more extravagant version. What will not be lacking will be action, abundant relics and a new perspective on mythology.
The first video game was released in 1996, while the most recent one came out in 2018. There are two new video games, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantisy Tomb Raider: Catalystscheduled to launch in 2026, and 2027, respectively.
