Sundance Dinner Festivalthe largest independent film festival, is saying goodbye in style and in true Sundance style, to its historic headquarters in Park City, Utah.

Sundance 2026 will be the last edition of the festival that has been its home for more than forty years, and once the current edition is over, it will move to Colorado where it will be its new home starting in January 2027.

Sundance is saying goodbye to Park City with the first major bidding war of 2026. The bidding between several studios is being caused by the sex comedy, The Inviteof Olivia Wildewhich marks the actress-turned-director's third feature film, following the releases of Booksmart (2019) y Don’t Worry Darling (2022).

Los competitors of this bid that would mark the first big sale of this year's festivalare the main independent distributors and minor studio divisions, such is the case of A24, NEON y Focus Featuresthe division of Universal Pictures, as the favorites to acquire the distribution rights to Wilde's film. Netflix you are making a risky bet with a large investment; Searchlight Picturesthe division of 20th Studios/Disney, is also in the bidding.

Negotiation of the deal was already completed Sunday night and began almost as soon as the film received a standing ovation following its world premiere Saturday night at the Eccles Theatre. Critics rate it extremely positively.

At the moment it is unknown if Wilde and the rest of the creative team are interested in a theatrical release, or a streaming release, although according to a report from THR, the film had a good reaction among the audience present at the premiere.

The Invite is an English-language remake of the Spanish film, Sentimental (2020).

The plot follows Joe and Angela (played by Wilde y Seth Rogen) and how their marriage has fallen into a routine. Angela invites her enigmatic neighbors (played by Penelope Cruz y Edward Norton) to some cocktails, and unexpectedly discover how their neighbors are polyamorous and might be hosting weekly orgies.

The script was co-written by Rashida Jones (The Other Black Girl, Celeste & Jesse Forever) y Will McCormack (Celeste & Jesse Forever).

Megan Ellison, David Permut, and Ben Browning produce The Invite.

Ellison produced the critically acclaimed, Booksmartwhich marked Wilde's debut as a feature film director.

Annapurna Pictures, FilmNation Entertainment, y Permut Presentations producen.

Wilde shot the film in Los Angeles in 23 days and in sequence.
