Thaísa receives tribute from Tijuca in a Women's Superliga match

This Friday night (6) marked a special reunion between Thaísa and Tijuca Tênis Clube. It was the first time that the center faced the team that revealed it, in the place where it took its first steps in volleyball. As a form of tribute, after the game, Tijuca presented her with a personalized shirt with her name and number.

Paula Mohr, captain of the Tijucana team, was responsible for handing over the shirt to Thaísa, who was very happy with the honor.

— I have enormous affection for Tijuca and everyone here. They were the ones who took my hand and believed in me when I was taking my first steps. So, I was very happy with the honor. I even joked that it was great that they paid tribute during their lifetime. I am very happy and grateful.

In the match, valid for the 16th round of the Women's Superliga, Minas had a quiet victory over the Rio team. The partials ended in 18/25, 15/25 and 14/25.

Thaísa at Tijuca Tennis Club

Thaísa joined the Tijuca base for less than a year, in 2011, when she was 14 years old. The player reconciled the club's commitments with those of the Carioca and Brazilian teams in her age group, having a tight schedule. Even so, he continued to commit to all the teams and “train up to four times as hard”, as he said in interview with Lance!. Despite all the calls at the beginning of her career, she admits, in a good-natured way, that they were made “not because she was good, but because of her height”.

The effort soon paid off. The following year, Thaísa went to Minas, a team that, despite spending time apart, she still defends today. There and for the Brazilian team, he made his name on the world volleyball scene. However, this Friday (6), is the day for the player, aged 38 and 1.97m, to remember her first steps where it all started back in 2001, at the age of 14, when the world was Tijuca, the long hours of public transport and Campo Grande, the neighborhood where she lived.
