'God of War': Callum Vinson will play Atreus in the live-action series

With pre-production underway in Vancouver, the casting of the live-action series of God of War keep moving forward.

The long-awaited adaptation of the classic PlayStation video game made the signing of what is undoubtedly one of the most important roles in the Prime Video series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

It is about Callum Vinson who will give life to Atreus, the young god, son of Kratos (via THR).

Vinson joins those previously announced, Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy) in a leading role as Kratos, Teresa Palmer (The Fall Guy) as Phoebe/Sif, Thor's wife and goddess of family, Mark Parker like Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) like Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) as Thor, Alastair Duncan (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) like Mimir, and Danny Woodburn (The Witcher) y Jeff Gulka (Van Helsing) like the brothers Brok and Sindri.

Based on the ancient mythology-themed PlayStation video game, the series from the writer, showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind), God of Warfollows father and son, Kratos and Atreus, on their journey to spread the ashes of his wife and mother, Faye.. Throughout their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father to be a better human being..

Kratos is a Spartan by birth and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in the service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful pact with Ares, the Greek god of war, and lost his soul in exchange for victory in battle.

Over the course of 10 successful games, Kratos defeated mortals, creatures, and gods alike. In the process, He became an iconic pop culture character., Known for his stoic nature, undeniable combat skills, and tragic past.

In the live action seriesthe Kratos' story will closely follow the path of the previous two games as he deals with something new: his ten-year-old son, Atreus.. This father-son dynamic began a new chapter in the legendary series and will be the driving force of the new series.

Atreus is described as “the ten-year-old son of Kratos, who grew up in a remote cabin in the woods, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother Faye. He is an expert archer, has an affinity for animals, and is intensely curious about what lies beyond his forest home. After his mother's death, Atreus is left with a cold and distant father whom he barely knows and who, in return, knows little about him. However, Atreus longs for his mother's approval. father and is desperate to prove that he is strong enough to survive in a hostile and dangerous world.”

Vinson previously appeared in series such as Long Bright River y Poker Face de Peacock, Dead Ringer from Prime Video, and FBI: International from CBS. We will see it soon in the series The Night Agent from Netflix, and Crystal Lakethe prequel series Friday the 13th from Peacock, giving life to Jason Vorhees.

Prime Video awarded green light for the seasons.

Frederik E.O. Toye (The Boys, Shogun) will direct the first two episodes.

The series God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
