Lionsgate and the filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria, Bones and All, Call Me By Your Name) continue in the preparations for a new adaptation of American Psychobased on the 1991 book of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis.
This is a new adaptation, but not a remake of the 2000 adaptation, directed by Mary Harronand starring Christian Bale in an unforgettable role as Patrick Bateman, a millionaire New York executive and serial killer with psychopathic tendencies.
And while it has not yet been confirmed who will be the new Patrick Bateman, and casting discussions continue, candidates such as Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein, Euphoria), Austin Butler (Caught Stealing, Elvis), y Patrick Schwarzenegger (The White Lotus).
Bale broke the silence to give his first impressions of Guadagnino's new adaptation. During the premiere of his most recent project, The Bride!Bale reacted like this to the question of an actor as his preferred candidate (via THR):
“Whoever wants to try it, do it. I loved doing it with [la directora] Mary Harron all those years ago; I have fantastic memories of all that. A bold decision on anyone's part to try to make… I don't know if they're doing a remake or what, I don't know anything else about it. But I wish you the best; “I like brave people”.

The project was announced in February 2024.
It is important to note that Guadagnino's version It will NOT be a remake of the 2000 film de Harron, but a new adaptation of Ellis' novel.
The script for the new adaptation was written by Scott Z. Burns (The Laundromat, The Report, Contagion).
“Patrick Bateman, a wealthy New York City investment bank executive, hides his alternative psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends while delving deeper into his violent and hedonistic fantasies.”
The film will be produced by Frenesy Films, with executive producer Sam Pressman, son of Edward R. Pressman the producer of the 2000 film.
In February 2024, Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a press release:
“We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate of films. Luca is a brilliant artist and the perfect visionary to create a completely new interpretation of this powerful, classic intellectual property.”
