With filming underway in Arkansas, the gothic and supernatural horror project, King Snakefrom the director Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter, The Bikeriders) announces its protagonists.
Margaret Qualley (The Substance) y Drew Starkey (Queer) see a Michael Shannon (Knives Out, The Shape of Water, Midnight Special) as members of the main cast, according to reports from Deadline.
King Snake tells the story of a young couple (Qualley and Starkey) who inherit a farm in rural Arkansas and must overcome the demons, both physical and metaphysical, that haunt their legacy:
“The forces of good and evil collide in a terrifying film where real-world challenges confront otherworldly creatures and myths.”
Nichols and his Tri-State Pictures partners Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Sarah Green are producing the film in association with Range Media Partners. FilmNation (Conclave, Anora), finances the film and manages international sales.
Nichols shares his thoughts on collaborating again with FilmNation, the company with which he made Mud y Take Shelter:
“FilmNation has been a vital partner in my career. My films have explored various genres in the past, but I hope to take this approach even further with King Snake to create something terrifying and beautiful. Filmmaking is a privilege, and our team is working to create a work of cinema worthy of FilmNation's continued support.”
After appearing in small roles in Hollywood projects, including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino, Qualley established himself as a revelation of genre cinema in the Oscar-nominated, The Substance by Coralie Fargeat. This year we saw it in the cinema in How to Make a Killingjunto a Glen Powell.
Starkey, for his part, has also participated in horror projects such as the reboot Hellraiser by David Bruckner, and the series Screamand the gothic thriller The Devil All the Time. Her other roles include the series Outer Banksy The Terminal List. We will soon see him in Onslauhght by Adam Wingard.
