The eighties cult classic, Angel Heartwill have a remake in television format.

According to Deadline reports, Zac Efron (The Iron Claw) will star in and executive produce a new series that HBO and A24 have put in development.

The drama series will be created and written by Zach Baylin (Black Rabbit), who will also be another of the executive producers. Jonathan van Tullekenknown for his work on the acclaimed series Shogunwill be the director of several episodes and executive producer.

The synopsis is as follows:

“It follows a struggling New York paparazzi, who makes a living finding and photographing people who don't want to be found, and who is hired by a mysterious man to find a missing woman. But the deeper the search goes, the more it appears that a group of powerful elites, and perhaps something supernatural, are covering up the disappearance.”

The rest of the cast has not been announced.

Other executive producers include Kate Susman, Marc Toberoff, Max Hjortsberg, Lorca Hjortsberg, Alice P. Neuhauser, Joe Hipps, Stuart Manashil, Kevin Turen and Harrisson Kreiss.

The series is based on William Hjortsberg's 1978 novel, Falling Angeland its sequel Angel’s Inferno. It will be the second adaptation of the novel, following the 1987 psychological horror film starring Robert De Niro, Mickey Rourke and Lisa Bonet, which became a cult classic.

This will be the third collaboration between Efron and A24, after starring in the biopic The Iron Claw (2023), and the Jody Hill thriller, Famouscurrently in post-production.

A premiere date for the series has not been revealed. Angel Heart.
