The horror franchise Evil Dead returns twice.

First, it opens in theaters next month Evil Dead Burn by Sébastien Vaniček; then we have Evil Dead Wrathcon theatrical release set for April 2028.

Evil Dead Wrathfrom the screenwriter and director Francis Gallupi (The Last Stop in Yuma County) has just finished filming in New Zealand in recent days, and from there we get the latest news.

During an appearance by the producer Robert Tapert at Michigan State University – the same university where the characters in the original 1981 film by Sam Raimi–, Gallupi's film will be set at the beginning of the saga's chronology, specifically, The action will take place almost a decade before the events of the first film (via Dread Central):

This is another great work that marks a before and after. It is prior to everything. It takes place in 1972.

The producer proceeded to share other details of the plot:

“It's the story of a French woman with an unhappy marriage in America, and… what we'll discover throughout the story — probably — was an abusive husband, whose family didn't believe him, and therefore, they were basically in-laws from hell.”

Tapert shares that Galluppi and his cinematographer, Mac Fishthey strive to emulate the aesthetics of 70s films:

“It will feel like a 1972 movie because the director and his cinematographer They want to imitate the look of something called Ektachrome 100, which was a type of film that many movies were shot on at the time.. And that's why it's very warm, very tungsten.”

And regarding Evil Dead BurnTapert wants to make it clear that both films will be different:

Two completely different filmmakers. A [Burn] He films everything with a 110 millimeter lens, camera in hand, always moving, always shaking. The other [Wrath] It's very Tarantino-esque, very meticulous. Unlike Burn, this last one has a lot of sexual antics typical of adolescence… and I think it is going that way.”

Evil Dead Burn opens in theaters on July 10, while Evil Dead Wrath arrives on April 7, 2028.
