“Get ready for the trip of your life.”

Under that premise, NEON reveals the latest news from Her Private Hellthe return to the cinema of Nicolas Winding Refnwith his first film since the release of The Neon Demon (2016).

Her Private Hell stars the up-and-coming scream queen Sophie Thatcher (Heretic, Companion, Yellowjackets) playing a young woman searching for her father as a strange fog envelops her futuristic metropolis and unleashes an elusive and deadly presence.

It also tells the story of a group of women who are about to shoot a Barbarella-style science fiction film and who are pursued by a mysterious killer known as Leather Man.

The most recent news confirms that the Motion Picture Association (MPA)the organization in charge of granting age ratings to all Hollywood film projects, awarded Her Private Hell the Rated R by:

“Strong/bloody violence, sexual content and language.”

NEON accompanied the announcement with a promotional poster, available at the end of the note.

In addition to Thatcher, the cast includes Charles Melton (Beef, Warfare), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms, No Exit), Diego Calva (Babylon), Kristine Froseth (The First Lady), Dougray Scott (Irvine Welsh’s Crime) Aoi Yamada (Perfect Days), Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool & Wolverine) y Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car).

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

“When a mysterious fog envelops a futuristic metropolis, releasing a lethal and elusive entity, a tormented young woman searches for her father. Her search intersects with that of an American soldier who undertakes a harrowing odyssey to rescue his daughter from hell.”

The script was co-written by Refn and Esti Giordani (Life). Refn shot the feature film in Tokyo.

Refn is the producer, with executive producers including Lene Børglum, Christina Erritzøe, Takuma Takasaki, and Kimberly Willming. Donaggio Pine (Carrie, The Howling) composed the soundtrack.

Refn's inspiration for the project, according to his statements to Deadline, was unconventional:

“Three years ago, I almost died, and I was for 20 minutes. When they tell you that you might die in two weeks, a lot of things go through your mind: you're afraid, you get angry, you get frustrated, you get sad, you react with anger. But then, I realized that I had been given a gift, that if I could come back, I would have a second chance. Most people don't have that.

“When I came back to life, thank God, I thought: I have to start from scratch, but this time, with 30 years of experience. You have to start from scratch with everything; move your legs, your arms, things like that. And I saw that I wanted to make films again, in the same way that I wanted to make them when I was young, but I also had a very specific mantra: I will do what comes to mind instinctively.”

Refn is the screenwriter and director of acclaimed films such as the franchise Pusher (1996, 2004, 2005), Bronson (2008), Drive (2011), Only God Forgives (2013), y The Neon Demon (2016).

NEON debuts Her Private Hell in US theaters on July 24.
