The KING of the box office strikes again.

Michael ha reached and exceeded one billion dollars at the global box officel, becoming the first biographical film to achieve this.

The film just concluded its thirteenth weekend in theaters (July 17-19).

The box office up to date Michael:

  • $371.8 mdd (domestic box office)
  • $629.8 mdd (international box office)
  • $1001.6 million (global box office)

So far in 2026, only two projects have exceeded one billion in the box office: Michaely The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($1,008 mdd). Toy Story 5 It is on track to cross the same mark in a few more days.

The most recent record of Michael joins a long list of achievements that include: being the highest-grossing biopic of all time, surpassing Oppenheimer ($975 million), and the highest-grossing musical biopic in history, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody ($911 million). It is also Lionsgate's highest-grossing film (beating The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), and upon its release, it became the highest-grossing debut (domestic and global) of all time for a biopic (musical or otherwise).

The biopic of Michael Jackson is distributed by Lionsgate at the domestic box office, and by Universal Pictures in most international markets.

Michael has been able to impose itself on a clear division of opinions between professional critics and the audience. Specialists accuse her of wanting to portray a clean image of the superstar, by not addressing the various accusations that Jackson faced throughout his life.
