Netflix started the marketing campaign for one of its main bets for the next awards season: The black ball of the directors Javier Calvo y Javier Ambrossialso known as The Javis.
The Spanish queer epic sets its plot in 1932, 1937 and 2017, and explores the interconnected lives of three gay men. The film is inspired by an unfinished work of the same title by the Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca and the play The dark stone of Alberto Conejero.
Conejero co-wrote the script with Calvo and Ambrossi.
The cast includes the acting debut of the Spanish musician Guitarricadelafuente (real name Alvaro Lafuente Calvo), Carlos Gonzalez (Love is forever), Miguel Bernardeau (Elite), Milo Quifes, Lola Duenas (Bird Box: Barcelona), Penelope Cruz (The Invite) y Glenn Close (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery). They accompany them Julio Torres (Ghosts) y Alberto Cortes like Federico García Lorca.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“Explores the meaning of being gay at different times through three linked lives, uniting sexuality, desire, pain and heritage.”
The film celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last May, where Calvo and Ambrossi won the award for best direction. It features an original song, “La Nieve”, written and performed by Guitarricadelafuente, and a soundtrack by Raül Refree.
The project is backed by Movistar Plus* Original Film in collaboration with Suma Content Films. The production companies are Telefónica Audiovisual Digital and Los Esquiadores AIE. The co-producers are El Deseo and Le Pacte, with the participation of Atresmedia and CREA SGR.
The theatrical release of The black ball in Spain it is scheduled for September 25.
Netflix acquired US distribution rights following the film's premiere at Cannes and established a exhibition period in theaters of 47 days that will begin October 16, prior to his streaming release December 2.
The above represents the longest theatrical exhibition period for a Netflix film, surpassing the 30-day record of Marriage Story (2019).
