'Spider-Noir' has been canceled by Prime Video; will not return for a second season

Bad news for fans of the live-action series.

The Prime Video and MGM+ series, Spider-Blackstarring Nicolas Cagehas been canceled after eight episodes y will not return for a second season.

The surprise announcement comes after a record 11 Emmy nominations for Spider-Blackthe most for a Prime Video series this year, and ahead of this weekend's ceremonies, and the main ceremony on Monday, September 14. Additionally, critics received positive reviews of the series.

Spider-Black originally premiered on linear channel MGM+ on May 25 and began streaming on Prime Video the following day, offering the option to watch the series in both color and black and white. According to Nielsen audience measurements, the series accumulated 2.6 billion minutes of viewing in its first six weeks.

It was the first Marvel-related series to premiere as a result of the agreement between Amazon and Sony Pictures TV to develop characters and stories from the “Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.”

Starring Cage as Ben Reilly aka The Spider, in which he marked his first leading role for the small screen, it tells the story of Ben, an experienced and failed private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to deal with his past after a profound personal tragedy as the city's only superhero.

The plot is based on the Marvel comic, Spider-Man Black.

Spider-Man Noir is an alternate version of Spider-Man from a universe set during the 1930s, characterized by its black and white aesthetic, Spider-Man Noir operates in a gritty noir-themed New York City. Unlike the more familiar and colorful Spider-Man, this version follows a tough detective fighting crime in a dark and corrupt world, combining superhero elements with classic crime fiction tropes, such as moral ambiguity and a focus on crime drama.

Ears Uziel y Steve Lightfoot They served as coshowrunners and executive producers.

Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series alongside the team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord y Christopher Millery Amy Pascal.

Lord and Miller are also executive producers alongside Amy Pascal, Aditya Sood, Dan Shear, Cage, and Pavlina Hatoupis.

The entire cast included Cage (Adaptation, Pig), Lamorne Morris (Fargo, New Girl), Li Jun Li (Sinners, Babylon), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives, Acapulco), Abraham Popola (Slow Horses), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), y Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, Harry Potter). Guest stars include Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson y Kai Caster.

The series was produced by Sony Pictures Television y Amazon Studios. Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) was director and executive producer of the first two episodes.
