The theme gives weight to the series. It focuses on the death of JonBenét Ramsey on Christmas night 1996—one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history—and the personal and public repercussions that followed. The focus moves away from the procedural resolution – something that the real case never achieved – to focus more on the devastating process that the family and the country experienced as a result of the events; This distinction makes the series both a character study and a black chronicle narrative.

This approach is ideal for a case that has never failed to captivate the public. The Ramsey story became an iconic media phenomenon of the late 1990s and, unresolved, has remained relevant through decades of coverage and speculation. The series adds to this prolonged debate through a dramatic recreation articulated around the two people who occupied the center of the story.

The directors include Pippa Bianco (The Girl from Plainville), Anne Sewitsky (Presumed Innocent) y Richard LaGravenese.

Linda Rogers-Ambury is the producer. Executive producers include Richard LaGravenese, Ron Burkle, David Glasser, David Hutkin, Melissa McCarthy, Harrison Query, Anne Sewitsky, Tommy Wallach, Bob Yari.
