Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 2 tablespoons of wheat flour

  • 2 cups of milk

  • 1 cup of cream

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper to taste

  • Nutmeg to taste (optional)

Directions

  • In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the flour to the melted butter, stirring constantly to form a roux. 
    Cook for about 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw taste of the flour.
  • Gradually add the milk to the mixture, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming. 
    Continue cooking over medium heat until the sauce begins to thicken.
  • When the sauce reaches the desired consistency, add the cream. 
    Stir well to incorporate.
  • Season the sauce with salt, black pepper and nutmeg to taste. 
    Nutmeg is optional, but it adds a special touch to the white sauce.
  • Cook for a few more minutes until the sauce is heated through and thickened.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Remove from heat and use the white sauce immediately on pasta, vegetables, fish or any dish of your choice.
