Jeff Bridges will return for 'TRON: ARES'

With filming underway, Tron 3the third installment of the science fiction franchise Tron from Disney, officially titled Tron: Aresannounces the return of Jeff Bridges.

The original movie, Tron, released by Disney in 1982, starred Jeff Bridges as video game designer Kevin Flynn, who is transported inside his own virtual creation to team up with Tron, a security program played by Bruce Boxleitner. The sequel Tron: Legacy premiered in 2010 with the return of Bridges, as well as Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde as co-stars. Hedlund played Bridges' son going out in search of him and entering the same virtual world.

Now, the 74-year-old actor told the Film Comment podcast that he has joined the cast of the most recent installment of the franchise, saying the following (via The Playlist):

“I'm leaving this Saturday to play a role in the third installment of the 'Tron' story. Jared Leto is the star of this third. I'm really looking forward to working with him. I've admired his work.”

Bridges added that he had heard that “there will be even fewer AI elements” in Tron: Aresand that production is using more “practical sets” for the new project. “There are beautiful sets that I've seen. So we'll see.”

The cyber adventure is directed by Joachim Ronning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), with a script Jesse Wigutow y Jack Thorne.

The cast is headed by Jared Leto (Morbius), Greta Lee (Past Lives, The Morning Show), Evan Peters (Dahmer, Mare of Easttown), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, Murder Mystery 2), Cameron Monaghan (Paradise Highway, Shameless), y Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets, Riverdale), y Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education, The Crown).

The story of Tron: Ares is said to, “Focus on the rise of an intelligent program that intersects with the human world that is not ready for contact.

“Leto is Ares, the show’s manifestation, with Lee playing a video game programmer and CEO of a tech company who has to go on the run to protect her world-changing technology.”
