The horror thriller Weapons of Zach Cregger (Barbarian) y New Line Cinemacontinues preparations for the start of filming in May in Atlanta.

The most recent news reports the signing of Alden Ehrenreich (Fair Play, Solo). His role has not been detailed at this time (via Deadline).

The actor joins those previously announced Julia Garner y Josh Brolin (Dune: Part Two, Sicario) in leading roles. Brolin replaced Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian).

This will be Cregger's next project after directing the horror sensation Barbarian (2022), which marked his debut in horror films.

Ehrenreich's most recent projects include the romantic drama Fair Play by Chloe Domont, the comedy of terror Cocaine Bear by Elizabeth Banks, and the historical drama Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan. Soon we will see him star in the miniseries Ironheart from Disney+ and Marvel.

Weapons is described as:

“A horror epic of several interrelated stories about the disappearance of high school students in a small town.”

“Is a multiple and interrelated epic horror story that is in tone in the vein of Magnoliafilmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 actor-packed showcase.”

In addition to directing, Cregger wrote the script and will produce alongside Roy Lee from Vertigo, producer of Barbarian, and JD Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo's Miri Yoon also produces.

Some sources believe that “If things go well with this project, one goal would be for Cregger to eventually become a major horror voice and supplier to the Warners/New Line movie factory.”

Weapons it will be distributed globally by Warner Bros. Pictures.
