Are you ready to go further? A24 will bring a new version of Backrooms.

The liminal horror movie Kane Parsons wants to continue breaking box office records. After making it into the Top 10 of the highest-grossing original horror films in the history of the United States this week, the studio prepares the arrival of an extended version of Backrooms.

This extended edition, officially announced as Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, will have 16 minutes of additional unreleased scenes and a “cinema exclusive” post-credits sceneaccording to the official site of AMC Theaters and A24. With this, the new version will have a duration of 2 hours and 6 minutes.

Cinema screenings for this extended edition begin July 3which almost certainly means that Backroomsalready one of the highest-grossing movies of 2026, will once again be a smash hit over the July 4 weekend.

Parsons' film, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor y Renate Reinsve, grosses a global box office of $330.8 million, with a budget of $10 millionbecoming one of the most profitable films at the box office. With overwhelming success, a sequel is practically guaranteed.

Based on a viral series of found footage videos by Parsons, in turn inspired by a 4chan creepypasta, Backrooms tells the story of a furniture store owner and his therapist, who discover a dimension of seemingly infinite liminal spaces accessed through the store's basement.

This is Parsons' debut as a feature film director. At 20, he became the youngest director of an A24 project. Parsons is one of the members of a new generation of filmmakers emerging from YouTube.

Upon its theatrical release, Backrooms exceeded all projections, with a domestic box office launch of $81 million, a record number as the best premiere in the history of A24and made Parsons the youngest filmmaker (20 years old) to achieve a number 1 opening at the box office. In the international box office it grossed $37 million, for a global premiere of $118 million.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT BACKROOMS?

With script Will Soodik (Ash vs Evil Dead, Westworld, Homeland), Backrooms It is set in the 90s, and follow Clark (Ejiofor), a divorced man, a failed architect, frustrated and resentful of life, who works as the owner of a cheap furniture store. Clark goes to therapy with Dr. Mary Kline (Reinsve), to whom he talks about how his wife kicked him out of the house, and now he lives in the furniture store.

One night, the place experiences a lighting problem that takes Clark to the floor below where he will try to fix the problem, however, on one of the walls he notices a light that makes him approach and when he touches the wall, He finds a strange hidden door that he can pass through, which leads him to another dimension with a chilling atmosphere beyond reality.

Later, Dr. Mary will also enter this dimension in search of Clark, and two other young furniture workers (played by Lukita Maxwell y Find Bennett).
