STUDIOCANAL debuted a first teaser trailer for the biographical drama INKfrom the director Danny Boyle (28 Years Later, Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, Steve Jobs).
It is a new and exciting drama that portrays the dizzying rise of the British newspaper The Sununder the direction of its owner, Rupert Murdochand its editor, Larry Lamb. The project also shows how the tabloid format newspaper forever transformed the information landscape and impacted the media globally.
INK is starring Jack O’Connell (Sinners) as Larry Lamb, Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) like Rupert Murdoch, and Claire Foy (The Crown) as Julie Davis, a fictional reporter for The Sun inspired by the Fleet Street reporters of the time.
Set during his early days as owner of The Sun, the story follows business magnate Rupert Murdoch (Pearce) and Larry Lamb (O'Connell), who was his editor at the time.
Murdoch acquired The Sun newspaper in late 1969; It was during this period, under the direction of Larry Lamb, that the newspaper set out to forever transform the tabloid press and the media landscape. The teaser trailer suggests the origin of The Sun's controversial—albeit hugely commercially successful—“Page 3,” among other momentous changes that blurred journalistic, legal and moral boundaries.
The biopic is based on the Tony Award-winning play of the same name, written by the award-winning playwright and screenwriter James Graham (Dear England, Sherwood). Graham was responsible for writing the script for the film adaptation.
INK is a film by STUDIOCANAL, MEDIA RES and House Productions.
Boyle produce junto a Tessa Ross (Conclave, The Iron Claw, Zone of Interest) and Michael Ellenberg (The Morning Show, Pachinko). INK reunites Boyle and Ross after their collaboration on Slumdog Millionaire. Tracey Seaward (The Two Popes) is another of the producers.
MEDIA RES has acquired the rights to James Graham's play of the same name, directed by Rupert Goold. STUDIOCANAL fully financed INK and is in charge of sales worldwide.
The film is preparing to celebrate its world premiere this week at the Venice Film Festival, in competition in the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema (Lido di Venezia).
INK opens in cinemas in the United Kingdom and Ireland on January 8, 2027 via Studiocanal. For its part, Netflix acquired its distribution rights in the United States and Latin Americawhere it will be released in select theaters on December 11, and on Netflix on January 8, 2027.
