“There is something in the water.”
Netflix continues marketing campaign Belowa new dramatic miniseries (titled under the surface in our region), whose plot reveals that something lurks in the waters off the coast of Newfoundland.
After presenting the official poster on the occasion of its visit to TIFF 2026, Netflix debuts the official full trailer of the miniseries starring Josh Hartnett (Trap).
Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a good-hearted but stubborn fisherman from a small town, haunted by the mysterious death of his father decades earlier.
When an unidentified sea creature begins to terrorize his town, Calvin must fight to keep his community together. Determined to protect his son Wade (Charlie Heaton) and the rest of his family, he is joined by a visiting marine biologist researcher, Fonda (Mackenzie Davis), to confront the creature and reveal the island's hidden secrets before it is too late.

The 6-episode miniseries created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy), explores themes such as family, community, and change, while combining several genres, including local mythology, suspense, and humor.
In addition to Hartnett, Heaton and Davis, the cast includes Ruby Stokes (Jay Kelly), Kaleb Horn (Chucky), Rohan Campbell (The Monkey), Willow Kean (Hudson & Rex) y Natasha Henstridge (Fallout).
Filming took place in Newfoundland, and was born from the love that its creator, McKeown, feels for the Canadian province. In previous statements to Tudum, he said:
“It is a unique landscape, wild, dangerous, isolated and, in many ways, disturbing. But it also has its positive side: the community is very welcoming, the people are very fun and the place has many peculiarities.”
