The science fiction and horror franchise Alien, has a new installment underwaythe seventh film in the 20th Century Studios saga, which this time will be directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) as writer and director, with the return of Ridley Scottwho leaves his work behind the lens to participate as a producer.

The most recent news announces that the project is close to signing its protagonist. Is about Cailee Spaenywho, according to Deadline reports: “He’s been the number one choice for the lead role for a while after several meetings with the producers and Álvarez.”

Spaeny’s casting continues the franchise tradition of having a female performer at the center of the plot.

The actress started her career with roles in projects such as Pacific Rim: Uprisingthe real life drama On the Basis of Sexcrime drama Bad Times at the El Royalewith more prominent roles in the series Devs, Mare of Easttown, The First Ladyand the movies The Craft: Legacyy How It Ends. The movie is currently shooting Priscillaa biopic about Priscilla and Elvis Presley written and directed by Sofia Coppola, in which Spaeny is playing the leading role.

Back to Alien, the project is described as “an original independent feature film”, which is expected to include the appearance of the alien Xenomorphs. The film will be a reboot of the science fiction and horror franchise.

Scott directed the original 1979 classic, then later returned to direct the prequels. Prometheusy Alien: Covenant. He now supports himself as a producer with his company Scott Free. Álvarez is another of the producers.

It was previously reported that the president of the 20th Century division, Steve Asbell, considered that the strong presentation that Álvarez gave about his vision for the new installment: “It was a really good story with a lot of characters you hadn’t seen before”.
