Ingredients
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
3 tablespoons milk (dairy or plant-based)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional, for a gooey center)
Directions
- In a microwave-safe mug, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well with a fork or small whisk to ensure there are no lumps.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until smooth and no dry streaks remain.
- Stir in the chocolate chips or sprinkle them on top for a molten center.
- Place the mug in the microwave and cook on high for 60-90 seconds. Start with 60 seconds and check; if it’s not fully set, microwave in 10-second increments. The cake is done when it has risen and is firm to the touch but slightly moist on top.
- Let the mug cake cool for 1-2 minutes before digging in, as it will be very hot.
- Enjoy as is, or top with whipped cream, ice cream, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
Notes
- Don’t overcook! The mug cake will continue to cook slightly as it cools, so it’s better to err on the side of underdone.
Customize the flavor by adding a pinch of cinnamon, a few drops of peppermint extract, or a sprinkle of instant coffee.
Use a large mug to prevent overflow during cooking.
Enjoy your warm, chocolatey treat! 🍫☕
