Oscar winners Christian Bale y Leonardo DiCaprioreached an agreement to star in the long-awaited sequel Heat 2 of Michael Mann y Amazon MGM Studioswhich filming will begin in November this yearaccording to reports from The Wrap.
The media explains that some sources assure that the agreement with the actors has been closed, while other sources say that the agreement is in final negotiations, with a spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios aligning with the latter.
Bale will play Vincent Hannathe tenacious Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) robbery-homicide detective, a character played by Al Pacino in the original film, while DiCaprio will play Chris Shiherlisa character played by Val Kilmer.
Mann will return as writer and director of the sequelbased on a novel written by him and Me Gardinerpublished in 2022.
Heat 2 works as a prequel and sequel, taking place before and after the events of the acclaimed Heat (1995) de Mann.
Other actors in negotiations include Adam Driver (Marriage Story), who would take on the role as the villain Wardell, as Stephen Graham (Adolescence) as Neil McCauley, Robert De Niro's role in the first film.
A group of actresses, who are not named, are candidates to land the role of Sharlene, played by Ashley Judd in the original.
The project will mark the first collaboration between Bale and DiCaprioand the DiCaprio's first collaboration with Mann. Bale was directed by Mann in Public Enemies (2009).
The budget is around $170 million dollars. The high cost of production was the main reason why Warner Bros. decided not to acquire the project, making room for the arrival of Amazon MGM Studios.

The original 1995 film revolves around a group of professional bank robbers, pursued by the police after leaving a clue in their latest robbery by mistake. It was based on L.A. Takedownwhich Mann wrote and directed as a pilot for an NBC series. The series was never produced and the pilot was broadcast as a film on August 27, 1989.
Heat grossed a worldwide box office of $187.4 million on a budget of $60 million, and is considered one of the best heist films of all time, known for its narrative complexity and compelling characters.
Heat 2 will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt, and executive produced by Shane Salerno and Eric Roth.
