In October of this year, Peacock will premiere Crystal Lakethe highly anticipated prequel series Friday the 13thproduced together with A24which marks the return of the horror franchise after a seventeen-year absence.
- The 2009 reboot was the last film and project in the saga.
After years of a highly publicized legal battle over the rights to the IP, and uncertainty regarding its future, the franchise returns to the screen with a prequel series of Friday the 13thcon Brad Caleb Kane (IT: Welcome to Derry) as showrunner, creator, screenwriter and executive producer, along with Victor Miller –writer of the original film– as executive producer, in addition to Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian and Stuart Manashil.
With marketing campaign active, Brad Caleb Kane offers new details on what fans can expect from Crystal Lake. Speaking to Bloody Disgusting he explained:
“We weren't making a Friday the 13th movie. They're going to make another Friday the 13th movie, which is sure to be Friday the 13th to the max; but we were making a story about the town and a prequel about Jason's mother.”
The horror series is described as a “expanded prequel” to the original classicwhich will transport the audience to the beginning of it all, exploring the origins from Camp Crystal Lake and Pamela Voorheesbut Sra. VoorheesJason's mother and the original killer in Friday the 13ththe movie that started it all in 1980.
Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me, The Curse of La Llorona) takes on the lead role as Pamela Voorhees.
Regarding Cardellini as Pamela, Kane announced that she will become “totally Friday the 13th style”:
“There are a series of murders that are identical to those in the movies. Hopefully it will also satisfy true fans of the genre; we are preparing it, but it will come.”
The plot takes place before the accident that turned Jason into the killer we all know and fear.
Ms. Voorhees' role is detailed as “a mother who gave up her singing career to raise a child with special needs and who takes a dark turn when she loses her little one.”
In addition to Cardellini, the cast includes Callum Vinson (God of War, Chucky, Long Bright River) little Jason Vorhees, William Catlett (Abigail), Devin Kessler (Godfather of Harlem), Cameron Scoggins (Nashville), Gwendolyn Sundstromcon Nick Cordileone (Warrior) como Crazy Ralph, Danielle Kotch (Director’s Cut) as Claudette and Phoenix Parnevik (Bel Air) like Barry, characters from the original film, Nancy Nagrant as Kay Christy, a relative of Steve Christy from the original installment, and Joy Suprano (Fleishman is in Trouble) as Rita.
Crazy Ralph appeared in the first two films. He is a long-time Crystal Lake resident who drunkenly rambles about the curse of Camp Crystal Lake; We met Barry in the 1980 film as a camp counselor at Crystal Lake and the first victim of Pamela (Betsy Palmer in the film). He was characterized by Willie Adams. His girlfriend, Claudette, also a camp counselor, was Pamela's second victim.

“A prequel to the Friday the 13th saga, this series follows Pam Voorhees, a single mother who has not been able to overcome the pain after the tragic drowning death of her young and sick son, Jason, in the town lake almost a year earlier. The series was announced in November 2022. Peacock ordered a full season for the series, with an option for a second season.
The first season, 8 episodesis directed by Michael Lennox (Derry Girls), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake) y Quyen Tran (The Pitt). Lennox directs the first episode with Maceo Bishop (The Watcher) as director of photography.
Crystal Lake will be broadcast on Peacock in the United States, with a premiere date scheduled for October 15, 2026.
At the moment it has not been confirmed which platform will be in charge of its distribution in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.
