Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsummer) is preparing Scapegoathis fifth feature film and his fifth association with A24.
The film announced in recent weeks the signing of the Hollywood star, Scarlett Johansson (Jurassic World: Rebirth) in a leading role.
Beyond that, in all of Aster's style, nothing else was known. The silence has been broken today.
Being in full preparation for the start of filming, the first details were released (via Nexus Point News):
Scapegoat will focus on a surgeon, played by Johansson. The character must operate a character inspired by Jake Paul, who dies during surgery. The plot will show the consequences of her death and the scrutiny that the surgeon will facemainly by the main antagonists: his wife and his brother. the wife will be inspired by Erika Kirk, and brother in Logan Paul.
To have a little context, we tell you that Erika Kirk is the wife of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered in September 2025, while he was holding a debate organized by his organization Turning Point USA, in Utah. On the other hand, brothers Jake and Logan Paul are two American brothers, who gained popularity as Internet content creators.
The script was written by Aster.
Aster will also direct and produce with his company Square Peg alongside Lars Knudsen.
Aster's four previous films are, Hereditary, Midsummer, Beau is Afraid y Eddington. The last two were also produced by the filmmaker.
It was previously revealed that Johansson was Aster's first choice to take on the lead role, and that after reading the script, the actress fully committed to the film. The producers agreed to start production at the end of the year to adjust to Johansson's schedule, who at that time had the filming of The Exorcist by Mike Flanagan – with filming now completed. Soon, Johansson will begin production of The Batman Part II by Matt Reeves.
After that it will be the turn of the filming of Scapegoat.
