The Australian quintet Dr Sure's Unusual Practice was born in 2018 as a solo project by Dougal Shaw, a guy who has always been part of the Melbourne punk/post-punk/alternative/DIY/whatever scene, and last April he pulled out another one of his my favorite albums from this 2024, Total reality.

Mixing punk attitude with a sonic collage that encompasses new and no wave, krautrock, post-punk, samples/drum machines. left-wing politics, science fiction (the name of the album was 'stolen' from a phrase from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick's classic that inspired Blade Runner) and damn, the band created something on this album that made me sounds like a Devo updated or whatever.

And just like some contemporaries (Sweeping Promises, Omni, Shopping and others) Dr Sure's brought freshness and intelligence to the new – and large – wave of bands that reread the good sounds of 40 years ago.

Listen to the stalk!
