Make this delicious farofa using the ingredients below and following the step-by-step instructions for preparation.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of cassava flour

  • 4 tablespoons of butter

  • 1 small chopped onion

  • 2 minced garlic cloves

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper to taste

  • 1/2 cup diced bacon (optional)

  • 1/2 cup chopped green olives (optional)

  • Chopped parsley or cilantro to finish (optional)

Directions

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the diced bacon and fry until golden and crispy.
If not using bacon, skip this step.
  • Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until soft and lightly browned.
  • Add the cassava flour to the skillet and stir well to incorporate all the ingredients.
  • Cook the cassava flour over medium-low heat, stirring regularly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the skillet.
Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, or until the farofa is golden and crispy.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
If you prefer, you can add other spices of your choice, such as paprika, cumin or dried herbs.
  • Add the chopped green olives to the skillet and mix well.
This is optional, but adds extra flavor to the farofa.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and finish the farofa with chopped parsley or cilantro to add a touch of freshness.
  • Transfer the farofa to a container and let it cool a little before serving.
It can be served as an accompaniment to various dishes, such as meat, poultry, fish and beans.
