NEON released the first official poster of the biographical drama Artificialthe director's most recent film project Luca Guadagnino (Challengers, Call Me By Your Name).

The plot of OpenAI's chaotic corporate drama focuses on the story of its CEO Sam Altman, to be precise, from when he was suddenly fired by the board of directors in 2023, triggering a crisis that shook Silicon Valley, until his surprise return days later.

The biographical film stars Andrew Garfield (We Live in Time), Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Yura Borisov (Anora), Billie Lourd (American Horror Story), Cooper Hoffman (The Long Walk), Chris O’Dowd (The Big Door Prize), Jason Schwartzman (The Last Showgirl), Cooper Koch (Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Mark Rylance (Bones and All), Zosia Mamet (All that She Wants) y Nicholas Hamilton (IT, Gen V).

Take a look at the poster at the end of the note.

Announced by Amazon MGM Studios in June 2025, the project has since undergone several alterations, the main one being a change of distributor, after Amazon MGM ruled out bringing it to theaters in June of this year. The following month, in July, NEON acquired it and confirmed a limited release for Christmas 2026, followed by a wider release in January 2027.

Regarding the reason for Amazon MGM's departure from the project, it has been speculated that the studio did not like the negative image portrayed of Sam Altman and Elon Musk, co-founders of OpenAI. The decision would be related to the fact that the artificial intelligence company signed a multimillion-dollar commercial agreement with Amazon in early 2026, through Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This week he will visit the New York Film Festival (NYFF). Later, on October 11, it will be the turn of a screening at the BFI London Film Festival 2026.

This is the description of the film on the NYFF website: “The stakes could not be higher in Artificialthe exciting, funny and deeply human work of Luca Guadagnino; a drama of enormous moral urgency that transports the viewer through two decades of research in machine learning and technocratic recklessness, which have led us to the current critical point of AI. In 2003, Soviet-born computer scientist Ilya Sutskever (Yura Borisov) began studying artificial neural networks under the tutelage of Geoffrey Hinton—known as the “godfather of AI”—a professor at the University of Toronto (Mark Rylance). A decade later, while working for Google, Sutskever decisively crosses paths with a young entrepreneur named Sam Altman (Andrew Garfield), who would go on to be co-founder and CEO of OpenAI.

Considered one of our most audacious filmmakers, Guadagnino undertakes his most ambitious project here: a dizzying immersion in this apocalyptic moment we live in, with a script by Simon Rich that explores the growing gray areas between the human and the machine, between truth and lies.

The producers of the feature film are Luca Guadagnino, Jeffrey Clifford, Jennifer Fox, David Heyman and Simon Rich. Executive producers include Michael Beugg, Francesca Manieri and Marco Morabito.

Artificial only in theaters, on December 25, 2026. Wide release scheduled for January 2027.
