
Netflix debuted a first teaser trailer of the expected project Frankenstein of Guillermo del Toroadaptation of the 1818 literary classic by Mary Shelley.
With the premiere planned at the streamer for November of this year, the platform begins the marketing campaign of the most recent project of the Mexican filmmaker of the Oscar, known for creatures projects.
Del Toro has dedicated more than a decade to this adaptation that calls a passion project. In Tudum, Del Toro described it as follows:
“The culmination of a trip that occupied most of my life. Monsters have become my personal belief system. There are Frankenstein traces in my films.”
In the movie, Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight, Ex Machina), Isaac plays Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but selfish scientist who gives life to a creature in a monstrous experiment that finally leads to the ruin of both the creator and his tragic creation.
The monster is interpreted by Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Priscilla, Saltburn).
The rest of the wonderful cast includes Mia Goth (X, Pearl), Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Pinocchio), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The First Omen) in a “essential” cameo, Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher), David Bradley (Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), y Charles Dance (Game of Thrones).
The filming was made under the provisional title Prodigal Father. Del Toro is the screenwriter, director and producer.
The details of the argument:
The story will revolve greatly around the classic story of the novel of Mary Shelley of 1818, adapted innumerable times throughout the decades.
“Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th century, the story of Dr. Pretorous, which needs to locate the Frankenstein monster, which is believed to be died in a fire forty years before, to continue with the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein.”
Del Toro previously shared about this project:
“It is a movie that I wanted to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it is basically a movie. That required a lot of growth and many tools that I could not have done 10 years ago. Now I am bravely or sufficiently crazy enough or something, and we will address it.”
The film marks a new collaboration between Del Toro and the renowned composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, Pinocchio) who is taking care of the soundtrack.
